Lisa Polson had no idea when she recorded a cover of Cannonball for her debut album release that X-Factor winners Little Mix would also be releasing their version as a contender for Christmas number 1.

While we wish Little Mix well with their career, we have to say that it rather takes the soul out of what is a fantastic and haunting song.

Lisa has a tone to her voice that makes you want to keep listening and her guitar technique is impressive considering how long she has been playing.

While both versions (and of the course the classic Damien Rice original) will have their fans, we have to say that out of this weeks releases, Lisa Polson’s has the edge but sadly not the huge promotional budget of a major label to get it the attention it deserves.

Lisa’s version is out on 19th December, more details at www.lisapolson.com

First played in session on BBC Radio Wales back in September, the track caused a stir amongst Nick’s fans, a number of whom were eager to know when it would be released.

The song is reminiscent of early Beatles tracks but with Nick’s own unique style.

Up From The Ground really showcases the amazing technical skills of these fantastic musicians and we’re happy to announce that they are currently preparing a brand new album for release over the Summer, their first in some years and one that is eagerly awaited by their fans.

Lisa has already displayed a remarkable ability at songwriting and in a couple of short years has developed some impressive fingerstyle techniques on guitar.

Her release Leaving This City, showcases her vocal beautifully and displays a Nashville style of songwriting that is present in a lot of her work.

The first I’d like to draw your attention to is Pink Bay by Nick Ward. This is a collection of songs inspired by the coastal area near to Nick’s home.

While still retaining elements of New Wave as heard on Nick’s earlier work (on Outside Looking In) such as Follow The Sun there are also some bittersweet songs in a singer/songwriter vein, most notably ‘A Map & A Pin’.

Nick Ward is a quality artist that should be more well known and hopefully his forthcoming album Cadenza will give him the breakthrough that he deserves.

So we’ve decided to turn it into a music blog, jam packed with useful music-related information, releases, interviews and so on.

We’ll also be accepting posts from guest writers (subject to suitability) so drop us your post over via email (info at tuneshock dot com) if you’d like your content adding.

It’s a little messy around here but I’ll tidy the site up as I go along.

UK singer/songwriter Atheen is hard at work in the studio working on the third and fourth releases for her 2010 Project. The idea behind the project is to release one track a month throughout the year which is then bundled into an album on the release of the final track in December.

Atheen came up with the idea when realising that she wouldn’t have time to complete a whole album in one go and felt that a gradual release would give her more time to develop the tracks and come up with her dream album. Atheen is planning a launch party for the finished project in the week before Christmas and may repeat the exercise next year if successful.

The completed album will be released by UK label AudioFile Records.
